White Daisy/Red Verbena

Every once in a while I come across some embellishments that I have been hoarding.  This happened a few posts ago when I used a pressed flower sticker.  You can see that card here.  Well I have several other packages of similar floral embellishments and decided to use some of them up!  (think of it as making room for my latest impulse buy: bling, bling, bling!)

Back to today's cards!  I made three of each color combo, because there were 12 stickers in each package.  It felt quite good to finally use these up!

 The card layout was a CASE from page 29 in the June 2010 issue of Scrap & Stamp.

Big, Petite and Tiny

 This is what you get when you begin with a stamp from the Big Bloom set and pair it with the stem and ground from Hand-Painted Petites.

  I love the whimsical look of this card, aided by the cute DSP by American Crafts; and the cute as a bug dragonfly button!

The Tiny Tag tied onto the wide grosgrain ribbon adds a cute little touch, especially with the teeny flower button!

This card just makes me smile all over!

Riot of Petals

This card is based on a sketch from one of my yahoo group swaps.  I used the ribbon to guide my color combo for this card.

I stamped the image first in Lovely lilac and then sent the card through the Big Shot with the SU TIF: Perfect Polka Dots.  The first layer on the card base was embossed with the same folder.

Tiny rhinestones embellish the designer label framed in a Styled Silver Hodgepodge Hardware frame.

I sure hope the recipient likes this one!

 This is a bright one, isn't it!?!  LOL!  I almost need sunglasses on to look at it!

The sketch for this card comes from  Stamp With Heather .  Except for the pressed flower sticker, all other supplies (cardstock, printed vellum, ribbon) come from a Club Stamp card kit.  I did use SU's TIF: Finial Press on the white layer, and an SU scallop border punch.

Seasonal Images...

 ...it's there!  Can you see it?  Behind the layered felt flower?  The image I used from the 1998 SU set Seasonal Images!  It hasn't seen ink in a long while, but it served its purpose for this card!  Although the felt flowers and ribbon almost totally cover it up...oops!

 And yes, you have a good eye!  I did use SU's Sweet Always DSP again, but this time paired it with some Bali Breeze DSP too!

Saffron Trio

Delicate Dots DSP inspired the color combo for this card.   The paper pattern gave me the idea to pull out the Sizzix Embosslit Flower die to cut three blooms.    Hand-Painted Petites, an older (1999) SU set provided the delicate stems for the over-sized blooms.  The stems were stamped on PTI ivory in oold Olive ink before being run through the SU TIF: Perfect Polka Dots.

I used buttons for a touch of color and added rhinestones to the button holes for some subtle sparkle.  Some of the corners were embellished with metal photo corners to frame the layers.

Spring Solitude + Best Yet = Happy Moments

 When I saw the sketch challenge from The Sweetest Thing for this week, it was a matter of minutes until my card was completed!  The flourish in the sketch is what set my mind to work and put my plan in motion!

I remembered that I had one piece of this flourish paper hoarded left from the Enchante DSP package.  And I had been flipping through my image binder so many times over the weekend, that I knew I had a caged bird to dust off and set to ink.

The framed and layered sentiment ties the color combo  all together.

Party Time Tuesdays

 You may have noticed a new badge proudly displayed on my left sidebar.  My friend Kristie from Party Time Tuesdays emailed me a while ago and asked if I'd be interested in trying out for her design team for a new adventure she was starting.  Well I immediately flew down to my stamp room and began creating and scanned my card, barely dry, to her!

Even more exciting than being asked to try out was to find out that I made the team!  Woohoo!

Urban Ladybug

 Here is my interpretation of this week's sketch at Stamping 411.  After laying all the parts in place, I felt it needed something, so I mounted the main image at a perky angle.  The ladybug button on the stem of the fern was a last minute idea too.  It provided just the touch of contrasting color this card needed with a little bit of whimsy thrown in!

A Sketch Revisited

 Remember this card here?  At the time I posted it, I couldn't remember where the sketch had come from.
 Well, I just found it again!  It is from Clean and Simple Stamping; FTL#90.  I rediscovered it when I found the challenge for today's card from Simplicity, where I was directed to the original challenge (?) on Stampin' When I Can: EONAC#18.  (I may have missed a few links in between!).

The challenge was to use DSP (got plenty of that) and punches (got plenty of those) and follow sketch FTL#90 (this looks familiar!).

Please forgive the poor photography.  The sky was so cloudy and dreary when I took the pic. It was hard to get a good shot.  (That's the story I'm sticking to anyway!)

 This Sage Shadow card ( I am so going to miss this color  -sniff, sniff) is a CASE from the May 2010 issue of cards, page 27.  What caught my eye on the original card was some fancy stitching near the large bloom.  Well I didn't want to attempt that today, but I knew that in my stash of bling I had two rhinestone flourishes, so I was good to go!  You can't see it in the photo, but on the large brad there is a white rub on.  IRL it looks so elegant, white on white!

Card Candy

Quite some time ago I bought some card candy from a gal at a stamp workshop.  I do know that the stamps are from TAC, but do not know any details about the papers or ink used.  (Although I did re-color the leaves using a Green Galore marker to match my DSP!).  Now I'm an SU gal 98% of the time, but I just couldn't resist the cute little bugs she used!
One more change I should mention.  I added a rub on to the paper covered brad.  (Can't think of what that fairly new toy is called, but it makes brads out of papers and I imagine fabric.  Anyone surprised that I don't own one yet?  LOL!)

This card follows the sketch provided by Our Creative Corner this week.  I knew when I saw the sketch that I was going to use one of the four bugs in the set of candy.  I was also determined to use up some more of this one-sided DSP.  I have to get rid of it, as it's been around too long in my paper stash!

 This card is a CASE (copy and selectively edit) from the PTI blog from a week or so ago.  I made a portrait version and used mostly SU products.  My scrap of ribbon gave me the color combo for this CAS card. since it was such a quick and easy card to make, I may be digging through my basket of ribbon scraps to make more in different color combos!

This card is just fun!  Two, too cute papers and a kitty adhesive badge all thanks to American Crafts (Blue Skies)!

The card base is PTI white with a Chocolate Chip layer.
SU's word window was used  to highlight the sentiment from their set Three Little Words.

Two strands of stitched, narrow grosgrain "tie" the card together!  LOL!

Spring Solitude

One of the things I like best about this card is the color combo.  Very different from the colors I have been choosing so often lately.

My stamp room is downstairs and my computer is upstairs.  From one place to the other I managed to misplace my notes on where the color combo for this card came from.  (Actually when I think about it, I may have forgotten to write down any linking info to begin with!)

Anyhow, I made this CAS card for a color challenge somewhere out there in blogland!

 This is a card I made following Stamping 411  Saturday Sketch Challenge 150

I didn't get it posted in time to be linked to the website, but that's okay.  It's one of the many cards I've made recently where I've reached for Sweet Always DSP.  And I still have plenty of paper left, so you'll be seeing it again on future cards!  Consider yourself warned!

I love this sketch and will be using it again and again, I'm sure.  The colors, patterns and elements of this particular card just create a happy, friendly feeling. Looking at and holding it makes my heart sing, especially after the first work day of the week!

friendship is a sheltering tree

This is a pocket card I made for a swap.  The photos show the pocket and the card that slips inside.  I used 21 shaped buttons on this creation, plus one bird brad!  I used a Stamp-a-jig and masking to stamp the sentiment around three edges of the card front

The card took me a long time to finish because of a lack of concentration.  But I did manage to sort through my boxes of DSP, make labels for my embellishment drawers, and rearrange the punches on some shelves!

I don't know why my mojo was missing on this particular card, but when I'd rather clean and organize than stamp and create, something is wrong with SWMS!  I didn't get any other stamping done after finally finishing this card, but did spend more time fine tuning my stamping space!  Not to worry though, I made several cards earlier that will be posted throughout the week!  Whew!

A Challenge, an Enabler Alert, and a Gift Idea

The title of this post suggests that there are three features of this entry.  So I'll begin with the challenge.  I recently joined a blogging group on SCS called " Stamps R Us"  (Waving hello ladies!)  They have a challenge blog called The Stamps R Us Challenge Blog in which they post a monthly challenge.  The challenge for the month of May is to create "anything but a card"...

...in order to proceed with the description of my project, I'll warn you of a possible Enabler Alert!  There is an online  store called scrapbookSTEALS where a new daily steal is posted at 9AM MST.  I've been known to succumb to these deals (steals), especially when it involves bling or embellishments, therefore I have quite a few of these packages...couldn't bear to throw them away!  And yes, I have watched the Hoarders show and no I'm not that bad...yet!

...and now for the gift idea!  I recycled a package from some American Crafts embellishments to create a small gift box!  I used the original insert as a pattern for my DSP and used an ATG to glue the paper in place.  This gives the package a pretty background layer.  I forgot to photograph it, but on the back side of the plastic package I put a piece of coordinating card stock to cover up the tape lines from the DSP, and I used rub ons for a message.  I used coordinating ribbon to tie around the top of the package and through the hanger opening.  The ribbon does not need to be removed in order for the package to be opened!

I was searching high and low for some candies to put inside as a gift idea, but couldn't find any...(oops!...my bad!), so I placed some embellishments inside just to give you an idea of what this could hold.  Nothing big, mind you, but just a little something to say "thank you" or " thinking of you".  I tried a gift card, but the area where it would go is just a tad too short.  But hey, you could always fold up some paper money or a check and tuck that inside!  Think graduation gifts!

More often than not I have the hardest time coming up with the title for my posts.  Especially because I think they should be catchy, cute or relevant in some way.  The title for this post is none of those!

But let's move on to the card itself!  I used sketch TESC#113 from Taylored Expressions to create this square card.  The card stock the image was stamped on is textured which is why the apple appears as it does. 

The scalloped piece was punched from the border of the textured DSP and I really like how it turned out!  Another detail I like is the splash of color the little green silk leaf gives on the apple stem!  The three elements at the bottom of the card are layered tags with rub ons providing the sentiment.

Now if I were to actually use this card, I would stamp another apple on the inside so that I wouldn't have such a large space to fill with writing - LOL!

b is for birthday

Along with using the sketch, "light" is to be incorporated into the card's theme   As you can see, my light comes in the form of birthday candles.  (Now that would be a lot of light for someone my age!) The flames have Stickles added for fun and sparkle!

 I keep reaching for my Sweet Always DSP when making cards lately.  So I tried to change up the color combo by pairing Ballet Blue with the Pumpkin Pie and white patterns.  Maybe if I just hide the package of paper for awhile it would help!  (Well it's actually too late, I have a card to post another day using the same DSP!)

 It's difficult to tell from the photo, but the middle layers are popped up with dimensionals.  The blue framed image was sponged with Ballet Blue around three edges for a little more contrast.  The sweet sentiment was added as an afterthought, but it fits so well with the delicate patterns of the image and DSP.

Linen thread was wrapped several times around the base of the image panel and then tied in a knot.  (Reminder, it is time to get more linen thread!)

just for fun...just because

This card is just a silly little creation I put together a couple of weeks ago.  I had purchased some prism paper and was anxious to put it to use.  So I paired it with Melon Mambo card stock and then found a large, fun rub on that mimicked the prism pattern.

The ribbon slide has some pink Stickles added in the depression of the flower hardware.  Of course I just had to continue the sparkle by adding rhinestones to the center of the rub on!

Happier Because of You

"happier because of you"...isn't that just the friendliest sentiment?   It comes from an older SU set called "Because of You" and like I say about so many of my SU sets, it's one of my favorites!

Another fun surprise about this card is the DSP; called...Frosty Day!  Its name sounds like winter, but it's perfect for a springy card!

This was a fun a card to put together. It features many of my favorite things when making cards: DSP, ribbon, layers, felt flowers, brads, punches,  die cuts and an awesome sketch!

Best Blossoms

 I did some masking on this card, which I hadn't done in a long time, so I had some trouble at first getting  clear images.  After several failed attempts, I gave in and filled in some gaps with matching marker so all the leaves would be solid in color.  So much for the "simple" in a CAS card!

I love the mix of polka dots and gingham patterns on this card.  It has a simplistic charm to it.  The rhinestones on the popped up blossom centers give it touch of sparkle.  I left off a sentiment for now, because I knew if I added one, I would surely mess it up!  Seriously!  Adding the sentiments to completed cards is when I typically mess up:  crooked, smears, not stamped clearly, etc.  So this time I quit while I was ahead!
