Tangerine Cold Play

Before I talk about this card, I just want to say I am not trying to tease anyone with all my "let it snow" posts!  LOL!  Those of you who know me, know that I HATE WINTER!!!  Snow, ice, cold, wind - yuck!  I only like snow when it comes to making cards!   (Okay, I'll admit something else.  I'm a teacher, so I also like snow days!  LOL!)

And I do love my snowmen, again on cards only!  (Remember last years' posts "Snowmen on Parade"?  What fun those cards were to make!)  Well "Cold Play" is a stamp set from SU that I always loved from first sight.  But I didn't purchase it right away.  It always got moved back to the bottom of my wish list.  Then of course it retired and I had to live without it...until someone had a used set up for sale.   I bought it right up!  If I remember correctly it was around 90+ degrees outside!

So after months of sitting on my shelf I finally got to play with my "Cold Play" set!   I paired this cute little man up with some "Frosty Day" DSP and made this somewhat unusual winter color combo.  The result is a "warm" snowman with no fear of melting other than your heart...aaawww geeee!

WARNING!  I'm still on a roll to use what patterned paper I have on hand before buying new!  So having said that, be prepared to see lots-o-cards using this patterned pack in the next month!  It's a retired pack from SU and my package has been basically untouched...just letting you down easy!

Snowflake Birthday

 I took a few days off from blogging to enjoy the holidays with family and am slowly getting back into the groove.  But my mojo isn't quite up to par yet!  I have some ideas, but they aren't working out on paper like they are in my mind!  I hate when that happens (or doesn't happen)!

This red/white/and blue card was made for someone's winter birthday.  I used a birthday embossing folder for the background and then added some punched and die cut snowflakes.  Brads, ribbon, and rhinestones embellish the flakes and card front.

"Present" Gift Card Holders

 I made eight of these in front of the TV while DH was watching football - quality time together - each doing what we like to do best!  LOL!

Actually my stamp room is downstairs, so I got quite a bit of exercise retrieving the items I kept forgetting!

I followed the directions found here,  which were shared in a previous post. (See post from 12/20/2010)

These will hold gift cards that my colleagues and I will give to some special people in our school: secretary, school nurse, librarian, custodians, administrators and a couple others.  I believe I am officially done with my 2010 holiday stamping!   Woohoo!

Party Time Tuesdays Challenge #26

 Oh My!  It's time for another Party Time Tuesdays challenge!  this week the challenge is a colorful one!  Use the colors red, white, and green to create a birthday card.   Include a birthday greeting on the front of your card.

My card is one I CASEd from someone's gallery on SCS.  At least I think that's where I saw this idea!  I loved the checkerboard pattern and the little stamped gifts with rhinestones on the bows.  Mine are embossed in white.

Do you think this card is too girly for a guy?  I only ask because my son's birthday is today and...I better look through my stash!  LOL!  Happy Birthday Robert!  Love ya!

Gift card packaging revisited!

 Remember this post?  Well I had several readers ask for directions, which I never got around to doing.  But!
I did come across a very similar (and probably  easier!) gift card holder, with directions here!

So if you are in need of a fun idea for those last minute gift cards you will be purchasing, check it out!

When (if) I get some whipped up before they go into the stockings I will be sure to share.

Oh, yes, every year I plan on getting my shopping done early, but it hasn't happened in many, many years.  So I often end up getting gift cards at the very last minute!  I know I'll do better next year!

Bella

 I don't think I've shared this card with you yet, although it was made several months ago!  The photo has been sitting in my "to blog" folder for quite awhile now.  Since I haven't been stamping in what seems like forever, I thought I better get something posted and sooner rather than later!  (so much for my goal of posting something every day!)

The card uses SU's Bella's Bloom stamp and Bella's Rose DSP, along with some double sided satin ribbon (yum!) and some dew drops.

CPS #196

Using the same image as on my card from Friday, I made this using CPS sketch #196.

This winter image is the reason I bought the Nature's Secret stamp set from SU about five years ago, although I do love all the other images in the set as well.

I paired the white embossed image with Bordering Blue cardstock and Bella's Bird DSP (SU) on a PTI white base.  A large adhesive pearl flourish was cut apart to form two smaller sections, so that they would fit in the corners.

The finished card measures 5 1/2 square.

I'm the Guest Designer!

Can you believe it!?!  I'm the guest designer today for Friday Mashup's Challenge #22!   Please check it out and join us this week for a fun, winter challenge!

Remember the card on this post?  Well I received this news from Holly last Thursday and the pressure was on!  Yes, so wouldn't you know that I would not be able to take a very good photograph of my lovely challenge card!  LOL!

Trust me, this is a gorgeous card IRL, if I do say so myself!  The base is Soft Suede, layered with Basic Gray and Brushed Silver card stock.

The image is SU from the Nature's Secret stamp set; one of my all time favorites (aren't they all!?!).  Stamped with VersaMark ink and embossed with detail silver embossing powder.  The quote on the image is from Longfellow and it reads: " silent, soft, and slow  descends the snow".  The right side of the image says "peace" which I stamped  and embossed  a second time, cutting it out like a banner and popping it up with dimensionals.

This layered image piece is then layered onto Brushed Silver cs which was embossed with the Northern Flurry embossing folder.  Antique brass brads were added to two of the embossed snowflakes.  For fun I punched a hole into the center of large a silver snowflake brad with the Big Bite and placed a brass brad in the center before placing both brads in the center of the silver embossed snowflake image!

Gray taffeta ribbon is layered onto a strip of Soft Suede card stock and tied into a knot with a brass swirl clip over the knot.

When I saw these adorable pop-up matchboxes on  Kay Kalthoff's blog "Stamping to Share"  I knew they would become one of my next holiday projects.  I like to make little holiday treats to give to the Para's who help out in my classroom and I am always excited to find a new idea!  I made a few extras to hand out to others at school as well, and it's great that these are quick and easy to make!

JUGS Sketch Challenge #62

My card today was made following the sketch offered by the Just Us Girls Challenge blog.

My gingerbread men are from Penny Black and the sentiment is from Darcie's.

I "strung" the Gmen on baker's twine with brads in between.  After the photo was taken I decided to fray the two ends of the twine.  Looks so much better!  LOL!

The DSP is from SU called Holiday Treasures.  The green background piece was actually going to be the stripes on the reverse side, but when I went to add the adhesive, I decided I liked the checked pattern better!

The card base and some layers are Cherry Cobbler. Old Olive and Whisper White are used for layering too.  The Gmen were stamped on Creamy Caramel with Chocolate Chip ink and a little shading was added with a Creamy Caramel marker..

Party Time Tuesdays Challenge #24

Challenge #24 at Party Time Tuesdays is to use balloons on your birthday card (along with a birthday sentiment on the front of the card!)

I was looking forward to this particular challenge, as I had purchased these awesome glitzy Jolee's stickers awhile ago and was waiting for the perfect chance to use them!  I added the tiny bows to the tails of the balloons, since they seemed to need a little something more!

A sigh of relief!

 Okay, take a deep breath with me and let it out all together now!  This is the last of the BG/STG cards!  Now the pressure is on to get some more cards/projects made to post!

On this card I used the remaining star stickers and layered them to make one super star!  Then I added two different colors of Stickles to highlight the layers of stars.

The DP I chose coordinates with the pattern on the mid size star.  The wide red ribbon "ties" the two patterned papers together and gives the star a resting place!

a little wiser

 Those of you who have this DSP (Good Morning Sunshine) know the color is off in this photo.  Grrrrr!  Even with adjusting colors with Gimp, I still cannot get them to look right. So think Pacific Blue and you'll have it!

I made two of these cards today, as my son and his girlfriend will both  be graduating on Friday from college!  Woohoo!  Congrats to all the parents as well!

I couldn't resist adding these blue wiggly eyes to the image from "It's the Thought" (SU) for fun!

The inside will sport a vellum envelope in which to tuck some much needed (I'm guessing!) cash!

Oh, Joy!

This is one of my favorite cards from my Basic Grey/Sketches To Go marathon.  I just love the color combo, patterns, textures, and dimension going on here.

Specifically, the velvet rick rack, the bling, and the sentiment (Imaginations) trimmed out around the letter shapes.  The layered star popped up too.  It's just all working for me!

More Holiday Wishes

I used the same sentiment stamp as I did on yesterday's card, but I added some tiny rhinestones between the three small words.

This is another one of my Basic Grey Figgy Pudding meets Sketches To Go cards!  Sorry if anyone is getting tired of seeing these, but I sure had fun making these cards and definitely got my money's worth from this package of paper.  (Hang in there, I only have two more cards to share from this "themed" set!)

The ornament was one of the stickers in the pack and I used coordinating paper for the bottom portion of the card.  Velvet ribbon is stretched across the card where the pattern paper meets the Crumb Cake cardstock.  More rhinestones are placed strategically on the ornament to create some sparkle and glitz and then it was popped up with dimensionals!  Some stitched ribbon was tied onto the ornament top

Holiday Wishes

Back to Basics - Basic Grey that is!  This card uses one half of the large snowflake sticker in the Figgy Pudding paper pack (so I made two of these!).  I was in a button mood (as opposed to bling) this time, so added some color coordinating buttons to the arms of the snowflake.

The sentiment from SU's stamp set: Holiday Collection, is stamped in Baja Breeze (SU) on the matching cardstock.  I love the subtle look of the coordinating ink and paper for this card.
