Creative Belli Challenge: A 1, 2, 3, 4 Recipe

The challenge we have for you at Creative Belli is a recipe of sorts. When making your card to join in we challenge you to use:

1 ribbon
2 patterned papers
3 colors and
4 germs or pearls

Let's see how I covered that in my first card. I see one ribbon, 2 DSPs used on the frames, three colors: black, Cherry Cobbler, and Old Olive, and four black gems - I did it! Except for the card base, all other papers used were from the scrap piles!

Here are a couple of details about the card. The frames were made with Spellbinders dies, one of the labels sets, three, I think. The large flower was created with two SU punches: Modern Label and Blossom Punch. The red petals were punched from a piece of scrap card stock that was embossed with the distressed lines embossing folder. Three of them fit on the punched blossom flower perfectly. The lower panel of the card was embossed with the polka dots embossing folder.

The card below also follows the recipe. I originally was going to use it as my challenge card, but I couldn't get a good photo (even after my attempts to edit) of the card. But I added here because...I could!

Shopping Our Stash #39: Metal Mania

Welcome back blogging my friends! This week at Shopping Our Stash we are into metal:

Metal Mania- use something metal on your project or a Dilly Beans Image- think brads, eyelets, snaps, library clips, other hardware!

My card features a cute image from Dilly Beans called "Daisy Watercan".

I printed the image onto Crumb Cake card stock so that when I colored the daisies with white gel pen, they really popped! The remainder of the image was colored with Copics. The metal on my card is the centers of the daisies which are tiny brads.

The color combo of this card was inspired by the checked ribbon, which I bought on clearance after Christmas. I matched my card stock to the ribbon to use for the layers and scalloped borders. A hounds-tooth embossing folder was used to give the background layer some texture and continued the homespun look to the card. Linen thread was used as an embellishment and to tie the ends the ribbon together. A tiny tag was added with a safety pin.

Party Time Tuesday: Get Well Soon

Hello Party Time Tuesday fans! This week the challenge is to make "Get Well Soon" cards. We are sponsored this week by the following:

I really like how this card with the image from Sassy Cheryl's turned out! I saw a similar layout on Pinterest and was anxious to put it to use. The image was colored with Copics and then a cloudy sky was sponged in using a template and Bashful Blue ink. My thought was that the birds would be chattering together, so used a musical stamp from Anita's and then "interpreted" the notes with the sentiment from SU's Word Play.

An XL Sizzix Sizzlet was used to cut some green grass and then I added a foam fence in front of the lawn and birdbath. The birdbath is embellished with some rhinestones provided to the DT from Zva. The pretty matching blue rosebud was supplied from Zva as well.

Stamps R Us: Last Call

I have some news about our Stamps R Us challenge blog to share with you today.

After careful and considerable thought, Jan has decided to close the Stamps R Us challenge blog February 27th, so therefore, this will be our last challenge. InLinkz entries will close on Feb. 27th and a winner will be drawn at that time. Please visit the SRU challenge blog for more information.

At this time I just want to thank Jan and the talented DT for this fun and fulfilling experience. I have gained so much from this talented group of friends. Jan is a first class leader from the get go and the DT members are the most delightful, thoughtful, and talented people around.

About my last card for SRU! We have an "Anything Goes" theme for our last challenge. I used an image from Digital Delights by Louby Loo and colored him in with Copics, but used Liquid Pearls for the frosting! Then I fussy cut him out which wasn't too difficult as the image has pretty simple lines.

I knew I had a piece of animal print paper somewhere in my stash, so went on a search for that, and used enough for a small layer. I didn't want to overwhelm the card with too much of the bold print. Then I chose a contrasting color to make the larger background piece. I used the Happy Birthday embossing folder to give this bright blue piece some texture and also because it fit in with the birthday theme of my card. For embellishments I used three balloon shaped brads and attached them to the tiger cub's tail with Baker's Twine. I used some polka dot ribbon for another whimsical touch and couldn't resist using a cute tiny tag attached with a small safety pin too!

Big Bloom, Big Bow

I'm back! I pretty much gave up on the scraps and started clearing off a bigger space for stamping on my table. As I was putting supplies away, I got distracted by the tin of hatpins/beads/flowers from SU and pulled out this big bloom. I used an old SU color wheel to give me a color combo: So Saffron, Bordering Blue, Old Olive, and Chocolate Chip.

Okay, I know I should go back to scraps, but first I'm going to peek in on Pinterest!

Woven Scraps

Good morning blogging friends! I'm a hoarder by nature, although not quite ready for prime time TV! I'm on a quest to control the scraps of DSP that I save. I mean, how small should it be to be considered a keeper? I started to throw away those long thing slivers of paper when I got distracted and decided to copy an idea I saw on Pinterest. I've seen several cards where strips of DSP were woven in a loose fashion to create a background. So rather than making the tough decisions of throwing and/or keeping some scraps, I made this instead!

The felt butterfly was in my stash and so were the beads/hatpins (SU), so this card used up a small portion of my hoarded supplies. It felt good to make this card, but...I must go and tackle the scrap piles once again! Wish me luck!

Challenge #38: Shopping Our Stash

Good morning my blogging friends! Are you ready to shop your stash for challenge #38 at Shopping Our Stash? This week we are sponsored by Meljen's and the theme is as follows:

Make a Valentine using hearts, and/or lace, or use a Meljen's image or do it all!

For my challenge card I did some paper piecing on a Meljen's image called "Love Dove". I used quite a bit of my stash for this card and made a discovery. I do not have any fabric lace in my stash! So I left that out of my plans. But I did cut into some papers from a SU Simply Sent Kit called: "Love Stories". That's where the majority of the papers for this card comes from, all except the card base and embossed white layer. The many layered flower sticker is from the kit as well.

I used Spellbinders dies to make the pink and brown scalloped layers behind the image.

I had fun blinging up the card by digging into my stash of pearls and pearl flourishes. Stickles was used on parts of the image and flower and I managed to tuck a brad I and some ribbon onto the card too.

The sentiment is SU from the set called "A Happy Heart" and was punched out with the word window punch.

Whew! My desk was a mess when I was done, but it was a happy mess!

Happy Tuesday blogging friends! It's time for a new challenge at Party Time Tuesday! This week the theme is Valentines, so show us your love! Our sponsors for this round are: Digi Doodle Shop, iCopic, Wee Stamps, and Zva.

For my sweet Valentine I used an image from Wee Stamps called Sam's Special Delivery. I colored him with Copics and then used a clear gel pen to give some shine to the roses. The DSP is from SU called "Bella Rose". I used some Spellbinders dies: Ovals, Large Scallop Ovals, Banner Basics II and Ribbon Tag Trios. On the Riding Hood Red ribbon tag is a sentiment from the SU set "Have A Heart". The ribbon is also from SU. The flowers are from Zva.

Smitten!

The next challenge for Gingerloft fans is a love theme. Let's see you spread the love with your special creations this time around.

For my card I printed the images onto patterned paper. I rotated the image before printing a second time so that my bears would be facing each other.

If you look closely you can see a strip of clear acetate attached to the felt hearts. then down by the card holder you can see a scalloped "wheel". When the wheel is turned the heart will move back and forth between the two bears.

I saw the tutorial for this fun Swivel Card here at Qbee's Quest and became smitten with the idea!

Simple Valentines

I'm having so much fun making Valentines, even though I have made more than I'll ever need! But I'm using some hoarded supplies, like the tiny brown bags and metal rim tags. Some forgotten staples and punches are getting used. Bits of ribbon and scraps of paper that seem multiply overnight are finding their way onto some cards.

LOVE For You

I'm really into making Valentine cards lately. I enjoy making these as much as, or even more so than Christmas cards! For this card I dug into my neglected alphabet sets. This one from SU is called "Headline Alphabet".

For the white "ink" I used Gesso, by spreading some thinly with a popsicle stick onto an empty SU clam shell stamp case. Next some simple layering on a Crumb Cake base with Cherry Cobbler and Sweet Slumber Specialty DSP. and ribbon.

I just love the tiny tag punch and pin these fun size tags onto my cards whenever I can! The sentiment that fit so nicely on this one is from a very old SU set called "More Great Greetings".

Who Loves You?

Are you ready for the next challenge at the Creative Belli Blog? The challenge is to make a Valentine and/or use Hearts on your card. Sounds like fun, doesn't it? And you will have a card all ready to give to someone special on Feb.14th!

Let me tell you about my card for the challenge. I used some images from "U R A Hoot!", a Kim Hughes Collection from Cornish Heritage Farms. I stamped the owl on white card stock and colored in with Copics. The branch was stamped on Close to Cocoa card stock. both images were cut out and layered on two circles. See the ruffled trim behind the Rose Red and Pretty In Pink circles? I made that with an SU border punch on a strip of DSP (Sending Love) 3/4" x 12" and then sent it through the crimping tool. Then I wound this ruffled strip around the back of the layered circles, taping it securely in place.

A piece of Patterns Love DSP with a matching punched border and ribbon are the background layers. The card base is Crumb Cake.

People Need People: SOS

Those of you who have been to my blog before, especially when Bug A Boo stamps are involved, know that I just love Stella! Between Hallmark's Maxine and Bug A Boo's Stella, I'm covered in the "need an attitude adjustment" department!

The theme this week at Shopping Our Stash is "People Need People" and Bug A Boo is our sponsor, so I had to go with Stella and Gus! I think they make a perfect Valentine pair!

See the trim around the circle? I did that with a border punch! I used a srtp of DSP 3/4" x 12" and punched the entire length with a heart border punch. Next I ran this punched strip through the crimping tool (well first I had to dust off that long-forgotten tool!) Then I wound it around the backside of the circle. Next time I would leave a little more of the DSP showing beyond the circle to make it easier to wrap around. Plenty of sticky tape holds it all in place!

Anything Goes at PTT!

It's an "Anything Goes" challenge at Party Time Tuesday this week! Our sponsors this week are : There She Goes Stamps and Crafty Sentiments.

The card above uses a stamp set from There She Goes. I used some label Nesties to cute into the DSP panel and the then used of the same Nesties to create a frame to fit into the opening. I stamped the images from "Dream Big" Into the opening with More Mustard and Garden Green ink. I added some sponging using Crumb Cake ink.

For my second card I used a digi from Crafty Sentiments which I printed out onto two different shades of tan card stock. and some patterned paper. I added some shadows with Copic markers and then did some paper piecing. The Early Espresso background paper was embossed with Heart Blocks and the Rich Razzleberry piece was embossed with Swiss Dots. The Conversation Hearts are wooden embellishments from my stash.

Valentines Three

I have three cards to share with you. All of my SU stamps that fit the tag punch are in one box, so I pulled out the ones with a valentine theme.

The first two cards use the same layout, I just switched out the papers, trims and tag stamps.

This last card has an interesting medallion on the metal rimmed tag. I used a MS corner punch and a 1 1/2" square paper and punched each of the four corners and ended up with this cute medallion! I topped it with a "Love" charm and two metal hearts and then layered onto a slightly larger metal rimmed tag.

I Toadily Luv U

For the next two weeks at Stamps R Us the challenge is to show your love by making Valentines! Our sponsor Robin's Fetish provided the DT with some of their cutest images! I began by printing my toads onto several patterns of green paper. Then did some paper piecing until I had them just the way I wanted. I thought these two would look cute on a heart shape and then decided to make it a heart shaped easel card!

The sentiment is on a ribbon banner die cut (Spellbinders) and the frills and doo-dads are from punches, embellishments, and my fabric/paper/felt flower stash.

S.W.A.K.

The card above uses an image from a very old SU set: Festive Four. I've always loved that cute little envelope image! It's sitting on a sweet lacy square made by using a SU corner punch and card stock that measures 1 15/16" square. Too cute! Oh, the sentiment in the lower corner is another oldie but goodie from SU. this one is a rubber mounted stamp from the set More Great Greetings. It's perfect for this simple card!

For this next card I pulled out some cream colored vellum. I layered a smaller piece of the vellum over the "Love Letters" DSP and then punched a matching size tag to layer over the stamped image. I love how the vellum softens the pattern in the DSP and the Riding Hood Red ink in the stamped image. The "HVD" sentiment is from Impress.

Candy Lane Valentines

I stayed away from Pinterest long enough to make a couple more cards - wink! The card above was a CASE of a similar card on page 34 in the January '11 issue of "cards". My colors are very different from the original, but what I took away from that card was the cute use of mittens (mine are from SU) and the sentiment. I had to cut and paste words/letters from several Paper Smooches sentiment stamps to get the words I needed. I replaced the word love with a heart brad from the original card.

The patterned papers are SU's Candy Lane, of which i am now down to mere scraps -pooh! I love these papers, but I have hoarded them long enough! I used two border punches on this card: a MS cut out heart border punch and an SU scalloped edge border punch.

While I had the package of "Candy Lane" scraps on my desk, I went ahead and planned a second card with them. This is also a CASE from the same cards issue, page 103. I was drawn to the loopy border and the ruffled ribbon, of which I had both the punch and a similar ribbon in my stash! The red piece was cut from one of the new SU Framelit Labels. The crocheted and felt flowers/leaves are also SU, and I am slowly unhoarding them. (Not a real word, but works for me here!) I carefully stuck two straight pins in among the flowers and tucked the pointed ends under the largest flower. The sentiment on this card is SU: Well-Scripted.

You and Moi

SU's "Sweet Slumber Specialty" paper is one of my all time favorite patterned paper packs. I love the colors and patterns and texture! I used some of the patterns here to make this simple Valentine card. I was inspired by a tag in the January '08 issue of cards magazine. Rather than making a large tag, I turned my creation into a full sized card. The SU stamp set "You & Moi" was used for the sentiment. Charms, punches, and a red Sizzix die (Heart #2) helped form the elements to complete this simple layout.

I'm Back!

Hello Friend's! Sorry I was MIA for a while, but I have recently become addicted to Pinterest! So much fun! Now I have to set up a schedule for my day so I have time for card making/blogging, Splitcoast, and Pinterest. I guess cooking and cleaning needs to fit in somewhere too! LOL! (If interested, you can follow me on Pinterest! There is also a follow button on the left sidebar of my blog...wink!)

Here is a card for today. I've been focusing on Valentine cards, and have several to show you over the next day or two!

This card uses many patterns from the "Sending Love Specialty" DSP pack from SU. It's retired but I have several partial packages of this paper, so will be using it for years to come! There isn't any stamping on this card...yet. I still need a sentiment for the inside, but will wait until just before I use it! So the card is basically layers of DSP and images from SU's bird punch.

I Have The Winter Blues

I pulled out a well-loved TAC stamp set for my card. I paired this chilly image some DSP from SU for some wintry goodness. The banner is courtesy of my pile 'o scraps and an SU punch. I kept the winter blues going with some Baker's Twine to string it together. Oh, I almost forgot! See the adorable button brads on the snowman? Too cute! And a star button too! I love using using my stash for those special details!

Party Time Tuesday: Photo Inspiration Challenge

For my card I used a delightful digi from one of our sponsors; Digital Delights. I colored her with Copics and then couldn't resist using a glitter pen and adding some sparkle to the trim on her skating outfit. The scalloped circle behind the image is silver glitter paper (SU) and then I punched some hearts out of the scraps. One of the tiniest scrap pieces looked like a crown, so I added to the top of her head! I was able to use two more of my larger felt flurries to embellish the card! I love it when i can use my stash!

A CASE of cards

I CASEd three cards from the Feb. '09 issue of cards magazine. I no longer subscribe to this publication, but keep the back issues I have for frequent reference.

My top card was a CASe from the card on page 33. The patterned paper in the original reminded me of the "Twitterpatted" DSP from SU. I used my Quickutz squeeze tool and some 2x2 dies to cut the letters and emboss the white circles. The hearts and squares were from SU punches.

My second card is a CASE from page 159. I was reminded of the stripe in SU's Parisian Breeze DSP and the bird cage stamp from Gina K's "True Love" stamp set. So I paired those two elements with some brads and felt flowers.

My third card is CASEd from page 92. The patterned paper used in the original reminded me of the colors and patterns in SU's "Bella Rose" DSP. I used a crocheted flower and felt leaves (SU) and finished the card off with a vertical sentiment from Endless Creations

Gingerloft Challenge: Let it Snow!

The next challenge is up at Gingerloft and is appropriately called "Let It Snow!" Create a winter scene, or use snowmen or snowflakes on your wintry card. I adore this Gingerloft image called "Woodland Friends". It was colored in with Copics and some Stickles were added to give the snow some wintry sparkle. The fence posts, snowman, cardinal, and rabbit were cut out from a second image and popped up with dimensionals.

Let It Snow!

I know what you're thinking. What an odd color combination for a winter card! Especially one that suggests snow in red or pink or brown. Well let me take you on the journey that I followed this morning.

As usual upon waking up I turned on my computer and checked out Google Reader. (No lie, I do this every morning first thing!) First to catch my eye was the challenge at The Friday Mashup:

Make a project using "Paper Piercing".
Or make a project using the colors "Blushing Bride, Riding Hood Red & Early Espresso". Or "Mash it Up" and create a project with the "Color Combo & Paper Piercing"!

Well I love those colors, so I pinned those into my brain. (I just joined Pinterest, so have pinning on my mind!) Next I went to Kay's blog and saw her card for today and loved the layout she used. Another brain pin! Well my mojo really started churning and spinning and before I stepped off the bottom stair to my stamp room I had a specific card in mind!

Then it was stamp, color, poke, and glue and my card was completed!

Fleur De Lis Frame

Frames are the focus this time for the challenge at Creative Belli!

I dusted off my Fleur De Lis pendant die and a Labels One die from Spellbinders to create my white frame. Found inside the frame is an image from a long retired SU set called "Garden Collage". Some punched posies (SU), brads, and punched pine branches (MS), add color, dimension, and embellish the image. Directly behind the frame are card stock layers in black and Real Red from my scrap heap. Attached to the red satin bow with a small white safety pin are three tiny tags (SU stamp set and punch). This square card has a white base, a Real Red layer, and a piece of long forgotten patterned paper (unknown).

Buttons, Buttons, and More Buttons!

I've been shopping my stash of buttons for this week's Shopping Our Stash challenge card! We are on Challenge 35 and are asking you to think borders. "Use any border punch or create your own border out of what you have on hand".

I not only put my scallop border punch to work to create a border under the ribbon, but also to create a square medallion to frame my image! I love those sweet scallops all around the flowers! I used flower shaped buttons on the stamped stems and leaves (SU, Just Believe) and also in the corners of the image panel. Then I added even more buttons to form a button border to the ribbon/scallop border at the bottom of the card!

Bird's Nest

We have another fun challenge for you at Party Time Tuesday this week! In honor of Ben Franklin's birthday, we are asking you to make a birthday card for this challenge! For someone special or just for fun, everyone can use birthday cards in their stash!

Our sponsors this week are Stampendous, Whisker Graphics and Wild Rose Studios.

I went with a monochromatic color combo this week. Using an awesome stamp set from Stampendous called "Bird's Nest" and some Frantage Chips, I created this card for one of the men in my family. I'm thinking DH will receive this card for his birthday next Spring, provided I don't misplace it between now and then! It's been known to happen more than once!

I used Crumb Cake, Soft Suede and Early Espresso for my card stock layers and inks. The background piece was stamped with several of the smaller images in the set using all three ink colors. Then I stamped the bird nest with soft suede and filled in some shadows with Crumb Cake. I cut two frames from Nestibilities and popped them both up with dimensionals. One frame was placed straight over the image, the second one was offset. I stamped three small eggs and then smooshed form the backsides into a foam mat to give them some rounded dimension. There are dimensionals behind them to keep them popped up in the nest.

The sentiment (PSX) was outlined with Frantage Chips. This is a new to me embellishment and very cool! They are like pieces of chunky glitter, but rather than shiny, they are matte like tiny paint chips. Mono-multi glue (green bottle) holds them in place perfectly! I'm really pleased with how this card turned out!

Enjoy Your Day

We're onto our next challenge at Stamps R Us! This time around the generous sponsor for our "kids" theme is BugABoo Stamps! I'm using their digi called "HapBee Birthday". I colored the image with Copics keeping the colors clean and bright. The wings were colored again with a clear glitter pen. I paired the image with some Real Red SU patterned paper and an SU sentiment from the "Riveting" set.

Decorative Accent

For this card I pulled out one of my older Sizzix dies. This one is called Decorative Accent #2. I put the card together by using the sketch at Stampin' Sisterhood. This is my first time to their site entering one of their challenges.

This square card has a Very Vanilla base, with Crumb Cake ink sponged all around the edges of the card front. The patterned paper is from the SU Love Letters DSP collection. The decorative accent diecut is embellished with pearls of various sizes. The velvet ribbon shows up much darker than the patterned papers, but really is the same color. I guess there was too much sun coming in through the window, as the colors look washed out.

Fresh Vintage Peach Parfait

Forgive the boring post title, I was stumped on what to use! So I combined the stamp set used with the main color of my card - it works!

For the "Anything Goes" Challenge at Alphabet Challenge Blog and "Sketch #141" at Unscripted Sketches, this is my challenge card.

You already know that I used the SU stamp set called "Fresh Vintage"! So let me give you the rest of the details:

From The Heart

This card is for the challenge at There's Magic In The Air. I used their current free digi and colored it with Copics. I added some gloss to the buttons and heart for a shiny, slightly 3D effect. I also added a brad to the heart. The bow tie was popped up with dimensionals. There is some green Flower Soft near the bottom of the image. Baker's Twine was wrapped several times around the card front. The side-fold card shape is from die cutting the card base with a Labels Eight Spellbinders die. Labels One was used on the image and it's mat.

Have An "Ice" Day!

It's cold enough outside that I am content to stay inside and stamp today, tomorrow, and the next day! winter is not my favorite time of year, but I do like winter images! I also like this sentiment (Penny Black) for winter themed cards! I'm using this card for the Frosty Challenge at Dilly Beans. I colored in one of their adorable images with Copics, did some paper piecing and added Fun Flock to the furry parts of the hat!

For the background, I placed some felt flurries (an old SU embellishment, of which I have a ton!) on an SU embossing folder (Snowburst) and sent it through the Big Shot. The result is the felt snowflakes are now embedded into the background - so cool! An additional felt snowflake, covered in Stickles, embellishes the sentiment!

Love Me Forever

I used one of my prize images to make this card for the next challenge at Karens Doodles Challenge Blog. The theme is Valentine cards, so I used the Love Me Forever image and cut it out with a Spellbinder's heart die. I colored the image with Copics and then matted it with a scallop heart and a larger plain heart.

The DSP is SU, as well as, the pleated ribbon. Then I pawed through my Valentine embellishment drawer and found several metal doo-dads and two stick pins to finish off the card. I love how this card turned out!

Card Recipe

Challenge 316 at 365 Cards is to use their card recipe: stripes (check!), sticker (check!), stamped sentiment (check!), and one additional embellishment (check!).

So with that set of directions, here is my card:

I saw this sketch somewhere in blogland and realized it had potential for the card recipe. I used a butterfly sticker so I could also enter it into the challenge at Flutter By Wednesday, to use bright colors. You read this a lot I'm sure, but IRL the yellow is much brighter, not pale, like it looks in this photo! Sheesh!

The papers, ribbon, and sentiment are from Gina K Stamp TV Kits (still haven't put them away from my stamping marathon a few days ago!) I still have some ideas to try out and I'm having fun with the patterned papers and stamps in the kits!

Heart Snowman

Shopping Our Stash has a new challenge for you! This week we are on Challenge 34:

All that Glitters or Sparkles or Shines (use anything sparkly, blingy, shiny, glittery) and/or use a Dilly Beans Image (our sponsor this week!).

I used the Dilly Beans image called : Heart Snowman and he is a cutie! I outlined him with Copics and then paper pieced the scarf and nose. The sparkle and shine on my card comes from two sources. I used Stickles on the "hair" and hanging heart. The mats, nose and die cut hearts (Sizzix green die) are from mirror reflective paper. The patterned paper is from SU.

Party Time Tuesday has a fun, new challenge for you this week!

In Honor of "Save the Eagles Day" we're asking you to use a bird image or a bird related image, such as a cage, feather, nest, etc. Our sponsors this week are "Digi Doodle Shop" and "The Paper Shelter".

For Challenge #50, I used an image from "Digi Doodle Shop" called: Bird's Nest. I colored the image with Copics and then cut it out with Nestibilities oval dies. Then I layered the image onto a deckled oval and a scalloped oval. The patterned paper is from SU, with papers from "Bella Birds" and "Holiday Happiness". The card base is Blush Blossom card stock and the ribbon color is Blushing Bride.

It's an "Anything Goes" challenge at Gingerloft. We have some new Design Team members, so head on over and check out their creations and give them a warm welcome.

I just love Tami's image called "Christmas Door" and wanted to keep it front and center on my card. I just added some ribbon and ribbon slides to two opposing corners and let the image do the rest. The layers behind the image are a dark brown and then black card stock on a white card base. It doesn't get any easier than this for an impressive card!

More Pretty Pairs

I was able to make two more "Pretty Pair" cards for the challenge at 365 Cards. This first one is for the combo gingham and red. The image is a digi from Designed 2 Delight printed on crumb cake card stock and colored in with Copics. The candy cane was then covered with Crystal Effects. The sentiment, which is layered on multiple Spellbinders dies, is from TAC. This is embellished with punched out snowflakes and a brad. Velvet rick rack wraps across the middle of the card. The four corners are embellished with small brads. I'm using this card to enter into a Guest Designer spot at D2D! Wish me luck!

The second card is for the combo pink and damask. I'm not sure my patterned paper is a damask print, but it is the closest I have in my two mile high stash of papers! And I looked through every one! The image is from the SU set called "The Art of Life", the sentiment from "Matchbox Messages".

The marker colors used on this card are Pretty in Pink and Sage Shadow, a favorite combination of mine.

Everyday Enchantment

A couple of days ago I was able to spend some time with a couple of stamping friends. We hadn't gotten together in over a year! What a fun afternoon it was! First we did a "show and tell" where we each showed off some of the cards and projects we had most recently completed. My friend Bonnie started stamping about the same time I did, almost 20 years ago, and she is a fantastic stamper! She makes sample cards for a local craft store, so we got to oogle over her creations and awesome collection of Nestibilities - two baskets full! Dicksy is a mixed media artist and has been stamping almost as long as bonnie and I. She shared some beautiful cards from a workshop and some awesome altered books: one made from a door hinge and another from bathroom tissue rolls! We put Dicksy in charge of our project the next time we meet!

After sharing and oohing and aahing, I guided them through a Double Dutch Fold card. I just can't get enough of this fun fold! For the sample card I showed them, I started off with a white card base and then used some SU DSP: Everyday Enchantment. Two patterns were used on the card front and a third pattern was punched out to layer behind the main image. I used stamps from two SU sets: Fresh Vintage and Mixed Bunch. The large bloom was stamped with Calypso Coral ink and punched out with the matching punch. The smaller image was stamped with Soft Suede and punched out with a circle punch. These parts were layered and embellished with a brad that coordinates with the DSP. The bloom is popped up with dimensionals over a strip of pleated ribbon that is wrapped with Baker's Twine.

Cold Nose, Warm Heart

We're having an unusual winter here in Southern MN. We had temps in 60's earlier this week and today it has cooled to the 40's. And no I'm not talking about below zero temps! It's been heavenly! But I am getting into the spirit of winter with my card making. Today's card was made for the challenges at Dilly Beans and also at Do You Stack Up, both winter/snow themed.

The image is from Dilly Beans and was colored with Copics. I used Stickles on the heart. The sentiment is one of my favorites to use with snowmen stamps and is from PSX. The patterned papers are from SU, as is the awesome felt ribbon. The bad news is: the three brads are the last from my stash, the good news is: it's time to shop embellishments!!!

Polka Dots and Stripes

These two cards are for the 365 Cards "Pretty Pairs" challenges. For Monday (Day 308) it was blue and polka dots.

My card begins with the current sketch from Stamping Queens. I used a Not Quite Navy base with a Whisper White layer. Next up is some SU DSP. The image was stamped in NQN ink onto white card stock and cut with an SU Framelit die. The sentiment is from the same SU set (Just Believe) and was popped up with dimensionals. SU's embosslet butterflies were added to the image with dimensionals to qualify for the challenge at Flutter By Wednesdays.

This next card is for the Tuesday challenge at 365 Cards, Day 309 .

I used Always Artichoke for the card base followed by a layer of Whisper White. The DSP is from SU. The SU image from the set "A Little Bit of Happiness" was colored in with Copics. Impossible to see from this photo, but I outlined each of the leaf framed with a black glitter marker for some subtle glimmer.

The sentiment is from the SU set "Stem Sayings" and is embellished with two leaf shaped buttons. Matching ribbon finishes off the card.

I'm A Belli Girl!

I am so excited to share some awesome news with you! I am an official member of the Belli Challenge Design Team! I'm a Belli Girl, I know, who would have thought! I'm so looking forward to sharing and playing in the challenges with the other design team members. You will find links to their blogs on my left sidebar.

Our first challenge of the New Year is snowflakes! As I write up this post, we have no snow here in southwestern MN and none in the forecast for the next ten days! Unbelievable! I'm not complaining, as I'm sure we will get tons of snow yet this winter and it will last way too long!

Here is my CAS snowflake card:

I kept this square card simple in design and colors. I recycled some foam from a sheet of packing material and cut it with a Sizzix snowflake die. I used the same die to cut some bright blue mirror reflective card stock (which has been in my specialty papers stash for years!), and placed this one under the foam flake. As you can see the mirror card stock did not photograph well! In the center of the snowflakes I put a stamped image (SU: Merry & Bright) that was punched out and then layered with a slightly larger circle of reflective card stock (looks black in the photo). More blue mirror card stock is behind the white polka dot embossed layer.

Winter Wishes

This bright and merry card is for the January Sketch Challenge at Woodware Blog. I used the snowman from the Woodware set: Traditional Christmas and the sentiment is from Love Snowmen. The patterned paper is from my SU DSP stash: Jersey Shore. The snowman was colored with Copics and then trimmed out and added to a metal rim tag. The sentiment is on two punch shapes from SU and a small felt flurry embellishes it. Both the snowman and sentiment are popped up with dimensionals.

SOS Challenge #33 - Rewind

We're having a challenge "Rewind" at Shopping Our Stash! This means for Challenge #33 we are asking you to: "pick any SOS challenge from last year and do it again or use a Meljens image."

I went all the way back to Challenge #13 which was from August 16th: The Weakest Link:

"do you have the best intentions of not buying anything new but seem to always "fall" for a certain company release or item? Whatever its, please use that and tells us what is your weakest link!"

My weakest link? Or should I say weakest links!?! Embellishments, punches, ribbon, patterned papers! I love/want it all! Yikes, I am sooo weak!

I colored my Meljens image, called "Cozy Winter Mailbox" with Copics to coordinate with the SU DSP called Frostwood Lodge. I dug into my stash for the multiple embellishments on the card. There is some textured ribbon (SU) and a resin snowflake brad. The snowflakes are courtesy of a MS border punch and the sentiment (SU) is on an oval punchie.

All of us on the Design Team are looking forward to seeing which SOS Challenge you will Rewind to!

PTT #49 "New"

Welcome back for another challenge at Party Time Tuesdays! This week we are asking you to use those new crafting supplies you received over the holidays on your cards. Tell us what you got in your post so we can turn green with envy. :)

Let me tell you about my two challenge cards. The card on the left uses a fun image new to me from The Wax Fruit Company. It's called Loco for Cocoa. I printed the image onto white card stock and again onto patterned paper (SU DSP: Wintergreen). After coloring in the "cocoa" portion of the image, I adhered this part onto the patterned image. For some fun details, I "colored" the marshmallows with a white Viva Decor Pearl Pen to give them dimension and gloss. I couldn't leave the snowflake bare, so it was filled in with Stickles for sparkle!

My second card uses another new to me image, this one from Crafts and Me called "Casting Down Imaginations". I colored this lovely detailed image with Copics in pastel colors and then ran the image through my Xyron to get it covered in adhesive. Then I dipped the image in glitter for a magical look. It has a lovely shimmer IRL! For my card layout I used the Double Dutch Fold as seen on Splitcoast here . Check it out, it is a really fun fold. I used this unique fold on another card that I posted here.

Along The Same Lines

Two things were certain when making this card: I wanted to use my stamps and I wanted to use the sketch from 365 Cards: Day 307 . From that starting point there were a lot of twists and turns. This card went from a snowman/winter card (would you believe I didn't have the right size snowman in my extensive collection?) to an inspirational quote card, (none of my quote stamps were inspiring me at the moment!). But then in the end it became a welcome baby card! What can I say? That's how my card making adventures work more often than not!

When I buy stamps from SU's mini catalogs, I often tear out the page(s) that the stamp set is featured on to save the card/project sample and I put it into the stamp case for future inspiration. That's what I did with the stamp set "Along the Same Lines". So for this card I semi-CASEd a mini sample while sticking to the sketch from 365.

Stamps R Us: Show Us What You Got!

Hooray! The challenges have started up again at Stamps R Us! The first theme of 2012 is "show us what you got". If you were lucky enough to get some card-making goodies for Christmas, show us what you got by using them to make your card this week. Or, if you're like me and didn't get any new crafty goodies, it can be "anything goes"! Well I did get this fun image from the Stamping Boutique called "Snowflake Tree"! The trunk was colored in with Copics and the snowflakes were filled in with Stickles. Light blue ink was sponged on the edges of the circle.

This fun card fold is called Double Dutch Fold and you can find the tutorial at Splitcoast here. I used three patterns of paper from SU's Frosty Day collection. Two of the patterns are on the card front and you can see the third pattern peeking through the lower card opening. There is also a white Top Note die cut on the inside of the card with a sentiment from PSX that says "Let it snow".

Snow Friend

My first card of the New Year is for Come and Get It Challenges! I used a digi from Bugaboo Stamps, who also happens to be the sponsor for their challenge. I used Copics to color the image and then added photo corners to make it look like a real photo. The four patterned papers are from SU called Ski Slope, a long retired set of papers! Yes, just like last year, I am trying to use papers from my abundant stash! The sentiment is from SU as well, called More Great Greetings. Want to know something funny about this stamp set? This is a foam mount set! It's true! I bet some of you didn't even know that SU sold foam mounted stamps a way long time ago!

Other embellishments include red velvet rick rack, and a resin snowflake brad at the top of three punched tags (also SU).

Gift Card Holder

This holiday season my family and I gave out quite a few gift cards and I had fun coming up with different ways to package them. So I decided to get a head start on gift card holders for next year and to have some on hand to be used for any occasion. The challenge at Designed 2 Delight gave me the push to start now, rather than later!

The base of this GC holder is Sahara Sand (SU) layered with some Holiday Lounge DSP (SU). I chose prints that weren't necessarily for Christmas only. The sentiment is from the SU set "Oval All". I'll be making more of these using up scraps and getting rid of the last bits of retired DSP packages!

The DSYU Challenge Blog gave me the inspiration for this card with Challenge #52: Rainbow of Colors. I used a clear stamp set from Recollections called "Meow, Meow" and colored the image in with Copics. I used some fun patterned papers from the SU DSP set Jersey Shore. Plain and scalloped oval punches were used with the sentiment. Wide orange rick rack gives some additional whimsy and color to the card.

I made a thank you card using the "Marshmallow Snowman with Snowflakes" image from Bugaboo, some SU DSP and an SU set called "Party Hearty" for the banner. Those of you familiar with this set know that the image used is actually a row of birthday hats! I cut them out individually after using a small Hero Arts alphabet set to stamp "Thank U" onto the hats. The upside down hats were strung onto Baker's Twine and placed in the snowman's hands. Stickles was dotted onto the snowflakes and ground. Sparkly "snowballs" adorn the four corners of the image.

SOS: Soft as a Snowflake!

Welcome to our new challenge at Shopping Our Stash!

The theme for Challenge 31 is Soft as a Snowflake! Dig out the Flower Soft, felt, snowflake stamps, papers, bubble stickers, puffy embellishments, flocking, fun flock, fabric flowers,..as long as it has something "soft" on it and/or an element of snow (snowmen, snowflakes, snowy scenes) - it works! Or use a Day for Daisies image!

I used an image from ADFD called "Warm in Winter". Isn't it sweet!?! I colored it in with Copics and added white Flower Soft for the snow on the branch. Crystal Effects was added to the red berries for some gloss and dimension! I used some retired SU DSP behind the image and the white layer was embossed with a snowflake embossing folder.

Welcome Winter

For sketch challenge #77 at Sketch N Stash (their final challenge for 2011) I pulled out some retired DSP from SU to use for the background and notched strips. I also dug into my Stickles stash and added some to the snowdrifts and snowflakes. Crystal Effects was used on the streetlight, along with some glitter pens to add sparkle to the light. See the white brad like embellishments? There are actually glittered plastic "snowballs" from my winter embellishment drawer. So fun to use these seasonal papers and embellishments from my stash!

The image is from Paper Cupcakes that you can get here. I mainly colored it in with Copics and added some sponged blue ink to the background. The "fur" on the bird's hat is Liquid Pearls. I'm also entering this card into the challenge at There's Magic In The Air, their last challenge for 2011 as well.

Silent, Soft, and Slow

For today's card I switched back to a winter theme, but used some more of the same patterned paper as one of my cards posted yesterday. After all, the scraps were still on my table and the pattern is snowflakes! I used an image from the SU set "Nature's Secret" and stamped it with Baja Breeze. The center of the snowflake has some turquoise Stickles to sparkle it up. The strip across the bottom of the card is vellum stamped with three different shades of Brilliance ink, using the small snowflake stamp from the NS set. This panel is attached to the card front by two snowflake brads. "Winter Wishes" is a sentiment from a Woodware, USA stamp set.

Wings of Friendship

They are not partridges in pear trees or turtle doves, but I have two bird cards to show today. For these two cards I used a long retired SU set "Wings of Friendship".

This first version uses the same Kiwi Kiss ribbon from a card I posted on Sunday. Since it was out on my desk, I just searched through my DSP to find another match so I could use it again. The DSP on this card is also SU called Raspberry Tart. I love the bright colors and patterns! I stamped a second flower for the lower left and popped it on with dimensionals. Several green rhinestones were added to the flourish and flower center.

This second card uses the same stamp set, but different patterned paper. The paper was some scraps that a friend had given to me. It has several shades of blue and brown, along with some glitter! And yes, you can see snowflakes in the pattern, but I'm using it with this springlike image anyway! Call it creative license! I stamped the bird image in Not Quite Navy and highlighted some spots with Stickles. The image panel was sponged with Chocolate Chip and layered with NQN and CC.

SOS: Challenge #30

You can use kraft card stock somewhere on your project OR incorporate a tag element on your project, or make a tag of any kind OR use a Dilly Beans image,our sponsor this week! My card starts with a kraft card stock base, some retired SU patterned papers and a kraft card stock tag. I used Dilly Bean's "Bundled Penguin" colored with Copics and chalk. Fun flock was added to the hat and a clear glaze pen makes the heart shiny. The top of the tag is adorned with felt snowflakes. The sentiment is CTMH, as is the snowy background and ground.

Stamps R Us 12/12 Challenge

I went all out on my challenge card for you and dug deep into my stash of card making goodness. You see rhinestones and rhinestone flourishes, felt poinsettias and holly leaves, gold pine branches, glitter pens, metallic gold paper, and DSP that hasn't seen the light of day in years! Nestabilities were used to create the frame for the holly fairy and Copics were used to color this sweet image.

The More the Merrier!

I needed a break from holiday cards and projects, so decided to go with birds. I pulled out the SU set "The More the Merrier", because of this fun row of birds! I decided to paper piece them using scraps from some SU DSP called "A Walk in the Park". I added in some Kiwi Kiss layers so I could tie in this fun polka dotted ribbon. I've had this ribbon for way too long and needed to put it to use!

As you can see from my second card here, I almost reverted back to holiday cards! But, this card is definitely a winter card only! See the sentiment? Just saying! This card came about because: A. the snowmen stamp just jumped out at me! (I had forgotten the set had a snowman stamp!) and B. I wanted to use the same DSP for a second card before putting it away.

The snowflakes are courtesy of a Sizzlet strip die and the banner is from a Spellbinders Ribbon Banner die. The sparkles are Stickles. The colorful scarves and hats were colored with Copics.

I tend to "play" these little games with myself, by making up "rules" to follow when stamping, such as, make two cards while the DSP package is out. Or...pick a theme, image, category, etc. and make as many cards as I can before moving on to a new theme. So right now I'm in the midst of a bird theme. Be prepared to see several more cards featuring birds (or anything else that distracts me before putting stamp sets away)!

Holiday Wine Bottle Tags

One of the things my DH and I like to do is visit local (or in our case, not so local) wineries. I like red and white wines, not too sweet, not too dry. DH likes red wines, not too sweet, but dryer than what I like. It's fun to find wines we both like!

With that in mind, I made some holiday tags to go on some wine bottles for gifts for family and friends.

Here is a sampling of what I am putting together for the tags. I began with pieces of card stock cut to 3" x 7" and scored the
top at 2". I used a 1 1/4 circle punch near the top. Then I decorated with scraps of assorted Christmas patterned papers layered onto red or white card stock.
The cute images were from a set of "card candy" I purchased at a stamp workshop. These were made by a very talented gal with more patience than I usually have for making these small, but beautiful embellishments!

I added the layered sentiment piece from a retired SU set called "Holiday Happiness"

Now that I have some tags all ready to go, I just need to talk DH into going to a winery for some taste-testing!

Love Snowmen

The image and sentiment on this card is from Woodware USA Clear Stamps from the set "Love Snowmen". I'm also playing in their December sketch challenge with this card! I colored the image with Copics and then also added some Liquid Pearls to the hat and snowbank. I used a glitter pen on the wee tiny snowflakes.

The patterned paper is from SU, called Ski Slope. I layered some felt flurries (SU, retired, but I have plenty for numerous winter cards for the next gabillion years!) and added a metal dot to the center. The ribbon is SU as well.

This Little Light of Mine

Don't you just love Carla's challenges at Shopping Our Stash? She always gives several scenarios so everyone can participate in the weekly challenges. For example, Challenge 29 for this week is:

Light and/or white or Meljens - use something from your stash that represents light- candle, fireplace, stars, Christmas lights, or decorate a candle, make a lantern, etc, or make a project that is mostly white OR Use a Meljens Designs image, our sponsor this week!

So for my card I used a Meljens image called "Springtime Candle". I colored this image with Copics and did lots of embellishing with Stickles and rhinestones. The layers on the image panel are some SU DSP and some brushed gold metallic card stock. The very background layers are more of the SU DSP and the card base is Crumb Cake. Gold Encore ink was sponged around the edges of the image and DSP pieces. The bottom half of the card front was embossed with the D'Vine Swirls embossing folder.

My holiday card features an image from Paper Makeup Stamps colored with Copics. I made a very fun background for this card using papers from My Minds Eye! It's the Herringbone Technique as seen on SCS here. What fun it was to make, well after I got over the initial shock of cutting into these lovely papers! LOL! But you can easily do this technique with your scraps!

The sentiment for my card is CTMH with a portion of an SU stamp inked in red! I used Nestabilities to cut and layer the image and sentiment.

S'more Stamps!

I found a surprise in my stamp room today! This Sandy Gore Evans stamp (Uptown Stamps) and another were in a decorative tin tucked way back on a shelf! What a happy surprise to open it up and discover two "new" stamps! They must have been there for a very long time, as I have no recollection of these at all, and I love/collect snowman images!

Well I had them on my mind when I saw the sketch challenge over at There's Magic In The Air, so I got right to work!

The image was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto X-Press It Blending Paper and then colored in with Copics. I added some icicle Stickles under the snowmen and also into the "snowflakes" on the green patterned paper (SU DSP: Ski Slope). I cut the image and scalloped layer with Nestabilities and popped it up with dimensionals.

I'll be making a card with the second stamp soonest!

Red and Green Joyful Christmas!

This card was made for the "Anything Goes" challenge at Catch The Bug Blog for Bugaboo Stamps! I printed the Joy Squares image on white and kraft card stock and also on red and green patterned paper. Then it was cut and paste (or paper piecing for you technique experts!) until all the images were filled in onto the kraft layer. I added Crystal Effects to the holly berries, crystal snowflakes to the "j" and "y", and diamond Stickles to the star. A scallop border punch was used on the white panel and black and red card stock were used as background layers. The card base is kraft card stock.

Dilly Beans Stripe Challenge

If you're not familiar with Dilly Beans Digi Stamps (or even if you are!) head on over to their website where you will find the cutest images ever! Then head on over to their challenge blog, Dilly Beans Designers and Friday Challenges, and check out the challenge for this week! It's "stripes"! Yipes! LOL!

I colored "Winter Owl" with Copics using some retired SU holiday DSP for my color palette. I just had to add some wiggle eyes to this fun fellow and also stamped a pine branch (SU) for him to rest on! His chest was given some texture by using the colorless blending pen to make dots all over. For some texture on his body feathers I just "flicked" the brown Copic over the area after the ink from the first coloring had dried. Lastly I sponged in some clouds and used a Nestabilities circle die to cut him out.

I layered him on several patterns of the DSP and then trimmed off the part of the circle that was hanging over the edge of the layers. Before putting this large piece on the card base I added three snowflake brads and several frosted "snowballs" to outline the circular piece.

White Poinsettia

Here I am playing with my Spellbinders Poinsettia die set again. This time I wanted to make a white bloom. When it was all layered I spritzed it with gold Smooch Spritz and wished I would have use a shimmery pearl color of Smooch instead. (Well, that just means I'll have to try again!) So I persevered with what I had before me and completed this card anyway!

For the bloom I used SU Shimmer White card stock, as well as, Garden Green for the leaves and Ponderosa Pine with the MS pine branch punch.

The background papers are gold Stardream, right behind the poinsettia, more Shimmer White, and strips of DCWV Naturals matstack.

I used the Swiss Dots EF on the Shimmer White background piece. On the DCWV pieces I stamped some "dots" (Stamps by Judith) with gold Encore.

Layered Poinsettia

I recently treated myself to the Spellbinders Layered Poinsettia dies and this is the first bloom I made. I used the largest die and cut two Garden Green pieces and one Cherry Cobbler piece. I then cut one of each of the other size dies in Cherry Cobbler. Before layering all the parts together, I turned them all over to their backsides and used the "clicky" end of a ball point pen to press into them on a foam pad to create some dimension. (I don't own an impressor or a larger end dry embossing tool!) Did that make sense? I'm sure there is an easier way to describe what I did, but words are failing me!

So after all my layers were adhered together (in the centers only), I punched some pine branches (MS) and tucked them between the green and red layers. I put three clear rhinestones in the center and then I sprayed gold Smooch Spritz lightly over the bloom. The rest of the card went together quickly with Holiday Treasures DSP (SU), some gold cord and three stamped Tiny Tags (SU).

The most difficult part of this project was getting a decent photo! Too much light, not enough light, too many shadows, too much glare - sheesh!

Dilly Beans Snow Family

I'm using the free digi from Dilly Beans called "Snow Family" for my card today. I printed out several images so I could raise some parts up with dimensionals. I colored most of the image with SU markers, but did outline some shadow areas with Copic markers.

The first image layer was cut out using a Labels 4 die. I used the largest die in the set to cut out a white and blue label for layering. The blue label was embossed with a snowflake folder. I used a Sizzix strip to cut out the individual snowflakes that were then highlighted with Stickles. I put some Stickles under the snow family too.

The three snowmen in front were cut from a second image and popped up with dimensionals and then I cut the middle snowman out from a third image and popped this one up again! Lots of dimension on this card!

The green buttons on the far right snowman are button brads! The heart on the center snowman is a charm that says "made with love"! I'm so happy when I can use embellishments from my stash!

OWH Midweek Throwdown

I was asked by Jan if I'd be interested in making a card for OWH Midweek Challenge and I jumped at the chance! Why? Because it is for a good cause and also I was excited to use this digi from K 'n K Designs. What a fun image to color! I used Copics to color this cute patriotic snowman. The background papers are all SU, as are the felt snowflakes and Tiny Tag (stamp set and matching punch).

While I'm at it, I'm going to enter this card in the snowman challenge over at Designed 2 Delight, as I haven't played there in a while!

I used Stella Calendar Months - November for my card. I just love Stella! She and I have a lot in common and we share the same feelings about winter, so I had to use this particular digi for my card!

Copics were used to color the image and used some long retired SU DSP for the background layers. One layer was punched with a open scallop border punch. Felt snowflakes and Baker's Twine from my stash were used to embellish the card.

My card features an image from Crafts and Me that I left it uncolored because I wanted to maintain the "sketchy" look of the image. I used subtle background papers and prints so as not to distract from the fine details.

Stamps R Us: Challenge: Embossing

Hello friends! Let me start off this post by telling you how much I adore this digital image from our sponsor Sketchy Stamper! It is so much fun to color and so easy to pair with patterned papers. (SS has a Santa image that is similar in style, one of our DT members used it on her challenge card, so be sure to check it out at the Stamps R Us Challenge Blog!) I colored "Snowy" with Copics using colors found in some SU DSP from my stash. After layering all the parts and adding ribbon, I put some Stickles on three felt snowflakes and hung them from the bow with Baker's Twine. I was just about to call my card done when I realized I forgot the embossing! So I took a scrap of card stock and ran it through an embossing folder, punched out a circle the same size as a metal rimmed tag and put it in place. You can barely make out the word "Joy" in the white circle. Whew! That was a close call! It wouldn't do for a DT member to screw up the challenge and set a bad example for the rest of you!

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that I put a small amount of Stickles on "Snowy" too, where the shaded areas are.

Gingerbread Tea lights

Hello friends! This morning I was on SCS looking for some quick and easy Christmas projects/stocking stuffers and followed some links to projects using battery operated tea lights. I saw snowmen and snowflakes...so cute!

I had purchased a large box of these tea lights last year after Christmas...and they still work! The ones I have flicker and blink!

One of my favorite holiday shapes are gingerbread ~~men~~ people, so it was a given that I would make my tea lights into ginger people. I'm making these for our table on Christmas Eve, which is a less formal meal at our house, usually oyster stew (yuck!) and one or two other homemade soups, veggie tray, sandwich fixings, and goodies...lots of goodies! I'm making a few extra lights, as I'm not sure at this time who/how many will be joining us.

The supplies I used to make these faces were scraps of card stock, punches, white gel pen, pink vellum, glue dots, pre-tied bows, and tea lights.

Gingerbread Hugs

Hello friends! The next challenge for all you Gingerloft Challenge fans, new and experienced, is Winter or Christmas cards. When I saw Tami's "Gingerbread with Candy Cane" image it was love at first sight! Really, just look at that adorable face! I printed him off on a tan card stock and then colored a few details with a white gel pen and Copic markers. In my rubber stamp stash I had the perfect Penny Black sentiment to go with this image! I love when that happens! The white scalloped border was cut using the CM punch system (a new toy for me!) and then embossed using the Candy Cane EF. The tan background layer was embossed with the Swiss Dots EF. Cherry Cobbler card stock (SU) provides the deep red layers.

Side Spring Card

Shopping Our Stash: Challenge 27

We're counting the days to Christmas at Shopping Our Stash! So for, Challenge 27, make anything Christmas or Winter related!

For my challenge card, I used a Woodware USA stamp set called "Tree of Gifts". I colored the image with Copics and then dug deep into my stash for the green brads and silver stars to embellish. I kept the layers in the same colors as the image and then added a festive red bow in one corner!

Oh, I also traced along the outlines of the ribbons with a black glitter pen to add some subtle sparkle to the whimsical presents.

PTT #43: Snow Us What You Got!

We're thinking about snow for our 43rd challenge at Party Time Tuesdays! It's easy for me to do, as I have a snow covered lawn as of this last weekend! Although it will all be melted in a day or two. Not to worry, more will be on its way soon!

I'm using a fun digital image from Simply Betty called "Tori" for my challenge card. I colored this cute image with Copics and then layered it onto Tangerine Tango and a piece of Jersey Shore DSP. The white background layer was embossed with "Snow Dots" embossing folder in keeping with the snow and circles going on. The layered snowflakes are cut from Spellbinder's "Snowflake Wonder" in white and Brilliant Blue. A Viva Decor Pearl Pen in Pearl White was used on the layered and small snowflakes, as well as, on the background snowflakes to give some dimension. Before the "pearls" dried I sprinkled clear glitter on top for some wintry sparkle!

Ageless Adornment and Got Treats

Hello friends! I have two cards to share with you today as a result of looking at my binder of images from my "All Occasion" stamp sets! One is more elegant in design, the other more whimsical.

On the left I used the holly stamp from the SU set "Ageless Adornment". I colored this image with Copics and then dotted glitter pens all over the design, green on the green areas, red on red, and clear on the background. (The sparkle is there, you just can't see it, but it is so festive!) Then I trimmed the image close and layered it onto some DSP (Holiday Harmony) and silver metallic paper. The background from the card base up is: River Rock, metallic silver card stock, Holiday Harmony DSP, and then the layered image popped up with dimensionals. Sheer silver ribbon was woven through an "S" clip and then a bow from the same ribbon was glued on.

The card on the right uses the gingerbread man stamp from the SU set called "Got Treats". I colored the image with SU markers: Real Red and Creamy Caramel. I punched out the image with a large circle punch and added it to a red metal rimmed tag. I stamped the sentiment again and punched and layered it onto a Garden Green punched piece. I added this to the bottom of the round tag to resemble a snow globe. The Crumb Cake base has two patterns of Sweet Slumber Specialty DSP layered together with some green twill ribbon. A smaller piece of green twill was knotted on and then a string of Baker's Twine was tied on in a bow.

My favorite is the one on the right! Gotta love those sweet little men!

No Place Like Home

"No Place Like Home" a D. Morgan stamp.

I love rubber stamps - no surprise there! I mostly buy them with the intent to use - duh! But sometimes I buy them because they are just beautiful to look at. I don't intend to stamp with these kinds of stamps because I feel I couldn't do the artist justice, like D. Morgan. So they sit looking pretty awesome on my stamp shelves, and I coo and drool as I pass by, to show my love.

Enter Darlene, a new stamping/blogging friend, who also loves D. Morgan stamps. But wait! She actually uses hers for their intended purpose and very beautifully, I might add! Check out a recent post of hers here! Do it, now! But please come back!

As you read, she challenged me to use my D. Morgan stamps! She wanted me to get one all inky, and actually attempt to color the stamped image! So I did! There, I showed her! Used colored pencils, so new to me (although they have been sitting on my shelf for years!), that I actually had to sharpen them for the first time this morning!

Okay, I know I need lots of practice with colored pencils (even ordered me a book, Masterful Color by Arlene Steinberg, thanks for the recommendation Shelly!!), but I felt good enough about this card that I could put it out there for Darlene and the rest of you to see!

Felt Christmas

Hello friends! I was recently able to make a "just for fun" card (or in this case 2!). No challenges to direct your attention to for these! I love challenges and the design teams I'm on, but sometimes it's just relaxing to make a card for no other reason than to play with my toys for fun and not a deadline!

I love this SU Frostwood Lodge DSP paired with a Crumb Cake card base. I used a deep red, crushed velvet, rick rack between the two paper patterns, which are the reverse of each other. The felt embellishments are all from SU, old and new. Felt Flurries, of which I have a ton (!), are older and the felt wreath is new this season. I pinned a tiny Crumb Cake tag, stamped with 'merry" on a pre tied bow and added it to the wreath. I'm just loving these homespun cards!

I was so excited to be able to use Winter Sampler for my challenge card! What fun I had coloring two of almost everything in this image and then popping the individual elements up with dimensionals. (Even the nose, buttons, and sentiment heart!) Then I actually took a real sewing needle in hand and added Baker's Twine all around the perimeter of the image! I know! I amazed myself as well! LOL! You can see in the photo where I pierced along the inside borders with a piercing tool. Oh the things you could do with this image!

Party Time Tuesdays: A Sketch and Thank You Challenge!

We are on challenge #42 at Party Time Tuesdays! This week we have a two-fer: a sketch and a thank you/giving thanks theme! You can find the awesome sketch on our challenge blog by clicking on the link above!

The DT was given the opportunity to use stamps and/or images from our own collections this week, so you'll see a variety in styles in our card samples. I used one of my favorite SU sets (I say that about all the SU sets I own!): Day of Gratitude and a coordinating DSP: Autumn Spice Specialty. The sketch allowed me to use several of the paper patterns and stamped images. Then using a couple of products from Viva Decor: a Glitter Liner in amber and a Pearl Pen in gold, I added some dimensional sparkle and shine in the way of "pearls" and "flourishes".

Bling It On with Stamps R Us!

We're inviting you to "Bling It On" over at Stamps R Us for our next challenge! The DT used some awesome images from Crafty Sentiments (our generous sponsor for this challenge) for our cards this week. The image I chose is called "Snowman's Gift" and what a fun image it is to play with! I colored the image with Copics and then highlighted with Stickles to put some bling onto the snowy landscape and falling snowflakes. I used three glittery "snowballs" in two opposite corners of the square card. I backed my image with a larger circle of Chocolate Chip card stock and then added a felt ribbon hanger to simulate an ornament.

'Tis the season to Bling It On, so we're anxious to see your best dazzle and sparkle!

GL Challenge: Felt, Fabric, or Lace

The next challenge for our Gingerloft fans is to use felt, fabric, or lace on your cards. Using "Snowman Globe" as my main image, I colored it in with Copics and added some touches of Stickles here and there. For the felt part of the challenge I layered three felt flurries from SU, (remember those?, I still have a ton left!). Stickles was also added to the tips of the snowflakes to give some magical winter sparkle!

So now it's your turn! What will it be? Felt, fabric, or lace? You have plenty of time to make up your mind and get creating, as this challenge goes until Nov. 26th!

SOS! Old Embellies!

The challenge this week at Shopping Our Stash:

Challenge 25- November 8- Stickers or Rub ons or Chipboard- time to dig out those old embellies that have been taking up room in your stash!

If you're like me you have enough embellishments to last several lifetimes of stamping! (I could consider them my children's' children's inheritance!)

For my card today I dug out my carton of rub ons! Yes, I said carton, only because it was a way to keep the many opened packages contained! These delightful, yet often neglected embellishments, are so fun to use and make up some quick cards! I used mine on some textured designer paper, so the pattern still shows through in a very subtle way. I added some pearls to the flower center and used some ribbon to finish off the card.

Check out what the rest of the DT made to inspire you this week. Some of them deserve extra credit for using two or more of their old embellies!

PTT: Bling It On!

It's all about the sparkle for our next challenge at Party Time Tuesdays! After printing the image (from Sparkle, one of our sponsors), I colored it in with Copics. Then I used a Viva Decor Pearl Pen (Another one of our sponsors) to add some glitz and sparkle! I dabbed some of the Pearl on with a paintbrush and it gave the dress and bell a textured shimmer. Then I applied the Pearl directly to parts of the image for a 3D sparkle; shoes and bell. On the lace punched border I added the pearl directly and then immediately sprinkled a diamond glitter over the Pearls before they dried. I did the same to the two corners of the image panel. The result is sparkly pearls, where the color of the pearl pen shows through.
