Paper Bag Birthday Card

The other day I was organizing a box of cards I had made and realized I was lacking in masculine cards, specifically birthday cards for the men in my life.  With my current love of paper bag cards I decided to make a birthday card for my son that I will need next month.  This version is different from the one I showed in a previous post for a swap I joined.

Here is the front of the card:

I took a kraft paper bag purchased at Michael's, trimmed of the ragged edge, and then folded it in half.  On the front is a piece of patterned paper from Prima, the Craftsman Collection.  I happened to find some stickers by Jolee's that were Steam Punk Hot Air Balloons similar to the paper!

Here is the inside fo the card:

The bottom flap of the paper bag is one the left and was taped on the sides to form a small pocket.  Cash or a gift card will fit nicely in there!  More patterned paper from the Prima pad and more Jolee's stickers.  On the right is the opening of the bag with a tag slipped inside.

Here is the open end of the bag and the tag:

Small items could also be tucked into this part of the card.

Here is the back of the card and the tag itself:

You can see that the tag has room for a personalized message along with the birthday greeting from PSX.

Paper Bag "Thinking of You Just Because" Card

I joined a second swap on Art and Sassy to make a Just Because paper bag card.  I can't get enough of these cards and will be making more soon!

This card measures approximately 5 x 5.  It doesn't open up the traditional way, but rather the bottom of the bag was folded up onto itself and then taped on the sides to form a pocket to hold a tag.  A larger tag fits into the opening of the bag in the back.

The supplies used are as follows:
Stamps: Endless Creations
Paper:  bag: Michael's, patterned and solid paper: DCWV: Linen Closet
Ink: Tim Holtz Distress Inks, SU: Soft Suede
Misc: crinkled seam binding from an Etsy store, Linen thread: SU, charm: Michael's, eyelets: SU Hexagon embossing folder: SU, corner rounder punch: CM

Here is the back side of the card and the tags:

Dress Form Tag

I stepped out of my comfort zone and joined a tag swap on Art and Sassy.  The hostess and her regular participants are incredibly talented, so I hope I didn't lower the bar too far.

I started out with a manilla tag and covered both sides with the gray and cream patterned paper from DCWV collection Black Currant.  I then added a torn strip of foil patterned paper from the same collection to the front left edge.   The edges of this piece  and the entire tag were sponged with black ink.  At the bottom of the tag is a gathering of black tulle and a black scallop card stock circle.  On this is a tiny Maya Road chipboard dress form that I sponged with Basic Gray ink.  A rhinestone from Studio G was added to the center to carry on with the bright pink color.

At the top of the tag is a large pewter eyelet with some black tulle knotted on to it.  Covering the know is a single, small black shabby rose from a roll of trim.  Attached with a small safety pin below the rose are three tiny punched and sponged tags stamped with images from the SU set Tiny Tags.  The safety pin has some bright pink nylon fabric ribbon tied on the closed end.

Red or White?

Wine that is!  I altered some wine corks to make charms.  I used chain, charms, beads, and pearls  and a few other metal findings.

I haven't decided yet if I'm going to wrap lace, ribbon, or trim around the cork itself or not. I kind of like it so the printed design on the cork can be seen .  And I'm not sure what I'm going to do with these yet.  I may look for a cork charm swap to join, or use them on the spine of an album or journal.  For now I'll just hang them in my stamp room for decoration!

Holly Jolly Challenge: Holiday Sweets

For my Holly Jolly Christmas Challenges card this week, I used an adorable image from our sponsor Bugaboo, called AKV Christmas Fairy - Lights.  I colored the image with Copics and then added some sweet treat themed charms (Oriental Trading Company) to the string of lights.  On each end of the string I added a Baker's Twine bow.  The wings of the fairy were colored with a clear glitter gel pen in a crisscross pattern and Stickles was added to the hat.  The simple sentiment is from SU.

Holly Jolly: Ornaments

The next challenge at Holly Jolly Christmas Challenges is to make an ornament or put an ornament image on your card.

Here is my colorful creation!   I had fun using the bright and perky holiday papers from MME, The 12 Days of Christmas.  I stamped a solid ornament image (SU Holiday Blocks) in coordinating colors and popped them up with dimensionals over some windows cut out from the patterned paper.  The sentiment is also SU, from the set Season of Joy.

Thanks for looking and be sure to stop by our challenge blog and check out what the rest of the design team created for your inspiration.

Paper Bag Matchbook Album

After making quite a few scrapbook pages for my DD, my DH asked if I was going to print and keep any of the photos for us to enjoy... well of course I am!  So I decided to make a mini album especially for my DH for Father's Day.  This is a Paper Bag Matchbook Album.  I watched this You Tube video for the tutorial.  Check out the video, it's easy and fun, I'm sure I'll be making more!

This  is the front of the album.  I kept the embellishments to a minimum as I know DH doesn't like a lot of frou frou.  The album base is black card stock.  I also used black paper bags which were purchased at Michael's.  The patterned paper is DCWV, the Black Currant Stack.  On the cover I also used some twill ribbon, buttons tied with Baker's Twine, a chipboard arrow from Maya Road, and an index journaling card from Lily Bee Design.

Here is another view of the album where you can see the matchbook effect and the back side, which I kept embellishment free.  I used six paper bags and covered the fronts and backs of each with patterned paper from DCWV.  The fronts of each bag have a different photo of our DGD and inside each bag are additional photos.  I punched a half oval at the top of each bag so the photos would be easier to remove.

Holly Jolly: Lots of Layers

I had fun with our new challenge this week at Holly Jolly Christmas Challenges.  Lots of Layers is the challenge and I love using lots of layers!  I hope you'll join us this week!

I photographed this card on a dark cloudy day so the colors are washed out, especially the green of the seam binding and image.  Just imagine something a lot less grayish looking!  the stamps/ink are from SU as is the Crumb Cake card base and die cut image layer.  Oh, the button, linen thread and seam binding are as well.  The patterned papers are a mix of miscellaneous companies.
