Pretend Friend

I love the Gorjuss Girl images, but the originals are so large (too much coloring for me!), so when they came out with the minis, I started collecting them.  This one is called the Pretend Friend, and I used it for a sketch challenge at the Outlawz.

Mirror, Mirror

These cards were made several weeks ago, but I never got around to posting them here.  (Just so's you know, I make way more cards than I take the time to post - really, it's true!)  I used the final three mirror-like embellishments from Prima and made three similar cards in plum, white, silver and brown.  I love it when I can use something up from my stash!

For A Special Friend

When I received this stamp in the mail from a wonderful friend, I knew it had to be used as the focal point of a card.  The May 15th challenge at The Outlawz was a perfect time to use it on a card.  The stamp is from Stamper's Best.  Isn't it  beautiful sentiment?  It doesn't need much to show it off.

Embossed Shimmer Sheetz

This was a fun card to make, although I would make too many.  I used Shimmer Sheetz that I purchased at Elizabeth Crafts Designs.  They are an awesome product, but a bit pricey for what you get. (I'll be more frugal with the remaining sheetz and leftover embossed pieces)    A fun technique of embossing the sheetz with a variety of embossing folders and then distressing the raised designs with a sanding block.  The sheetz were then cut into strips and placed onto a card front layer.  I added black Dazzle lines in between the colors and backed the front piece with black card stock.  Wowsers!  The black made all the colors and designs pop!

Purty in Pink!

I used a stamp set from The Stamps of Life called "flamingos2stamp" for this sketch challenge card.   I also used pattern paper and card stock from TSOL.  I love how this turned out with a simple color combo and fun patterns.  Check out those fun buttons!  Oh, and a Spellbinders die in my stash happened to match the patterned paper!  I love when things are all matchy-matchy!

Yesterday I used 9 brads from my thousands and for this card I used 7 inches of ribbon from the miles in my stash!  Yep, using my stash a little bit at a time!  So proud!

Embossed Wax Resist

For today's card I embossed a piece of waxed paper using a Sizzix embossing folder.  Then a placed white glossy card stock on  either side of the waxed paper, glossy side down and ironed.  This melted the embossed pattern onto the glossy paper.  I then took some distress inks and randomly sponged on the colors.  This was for the color challenge at The Outlawz.  The card was completed using stamps from Gina K Designs and some brads and ribbon.  Yay!  I now have 9 fewer brads in my stash of thousands!
What do you have way too much of in your stash?

Seeing Red?

Today's card is a simple color combo, but one of the colors is "missing"!  I die cut three flowers from the white front panel using an old small green die from Szzix.  Then I used a chevron border die for the bottom edge of the card base.  It is a stitch die, but I wasn't in the mood to stitch, so just left it as is.  Both die cuts were backed with red mirror card stock, which doesn't show up in the photo.  All the ways I tried only caused reflections of my hands or the camera.  So trust me, the red is there!  The sentiment is from WPlus9.

Thank Ewe!

What's more fun than puns?  Puns used on shaker cards!!!   I used an image from the SU set Pun Fun to make this shaker card.  This card was made for a challenge at The Outlawz.  I used silver mirror card stock behind the shaker window so the shaker bits would be reflected.  Ah, so fun!

Gold Leaf Lily?

Okay, I do not know flower names.  I know this image is not a lily, but I keep forgetting what it is called!  (and too lazy to look it up!)  Since my thumb is more black than green,  I don't bother keeping flower names in my head!  But, this is a card I made following a gold leafing tutorial by Els of Elizabeth Craft Designs.  I had everything on hand to do this technique, so why not?!!

See the handmade paper layers?   No. not made by me, but - hooray - I'm using my stash, one small layer at a time!

Warm Spring Wishes

I seem to go through phases of the stamp sets I use.  Right now I am returning to my Gina K Designs phase.   I haven't been purchasing her stamps sets lately, (too many places to spend my limited funds!), but I do have quite a few of her sets on my shelves.   So I pulled one out and searched Gina's video archives for some inspiration.   How fun to watch a master at work creating beautiful card projects!  Here is my humble take on one of her card ideas:

My Friend

I was inspired by a card I saw on Splitcoast when making this card for a color challenge at The Outlawz.  I loved the punched banner on the original card, so wanted to CASE (copy and selectively edit) that detail.  Some other details I added: tiny red rhinestones on banner and sentiment.  The larger banner is white glitter card stock.  The word "friend" was colored in with a clear glitter gel pen.  And the blue card stock has a sparkly shimmer to it, although that does not show up  in the photo.  (I'm really trying hard to use my hoarded supplies. ie. the sparkle and glitter card stock!)

On Top of the World!

Oh, how I love the Gorjuss Girl stamps from Santoro!  And even more so the mini versions!  I'm still in the collecting phase of these stamps, but did get brave enough to touch this one to ink!  I colored the image with Copics using the patterned paper (SU)   as my color guide.  I had a few things already on my table that I used for embellishing:  leaves, buttons, ribbon and a border die.  Sometimes it's fortuitous not to clean up after oneself right away!

Week Two: Jello?

This is week two of my Guest Designer gig over at The Outlawz for the Sunday CAS challenges.  If you are up in the wee early morning hours, you are getting a sneak peek at my card!   This card celebrates nurses everywhere!

This Wordsworth image with sentiment just makes me giggle!  Hmmm, I need to find a male version of this stamp too!

A Real Drooping Flower

Does anyone remember when Hero Arts had wood mounted stamps?  Do you remember their images of real pressed flowers?   I'm not surprised.  What can I say?  I hang onto things for far too long!  But the real pressed flower images were some of my favorites and still are.  All that to show you this card I made for my May 1st debut as a Guest Designer in the CAS Sunday challenges for the month of May over at The Outlawz!   That's a mouthful!

The silver "speckles" are from a stamp in the SU set Gorgeous Grunge.  I had to pull that stamp set off the shelf and keep it on my table so I would use it more often - (out of sight, out of mind!).

My Forever Friend

Recently I spent some time in my stamp room, organizing and reorganizing some stamp sets.  Although it was an overwhelming task, one advantage is that I discovered and rediscovered some awesome stamps!  The main image on this card was a recent gift and the sentiment was a rediscovered gem from an older set.  So I paired them together for this card.  I rescued some patterned paper that I had put in the recycle bin because I thought navy and light blue would work well with this black and white image.  I often keep very detailed images uncolored if I feel that I can't do them justice by adding color.  (Some might interpret this as me being a lazy stamper. Not wanting to work hard at colorizing an image - it's true!)  I did add a light gray outline around the image to help it pop!  Enough rambling!  Here's the card!

Inlaid Butterfly Die Cuts

I had a different idea in mind when I was planning this card.  But as I worked on it, it evolved into this.  My original plan was to die cut this butterfly in several different colors and use the little pieces that cut out to fill in the wings with color.    But after I placed the black butterfly outline onto the blue background I liked the simple color combo.  Sometimes less is more!  Here is the SCS video tutorial I followed to make this card:

I think my little Nikon camera is about to die.  Even with fresh batteries, it is not staying in focus.  I'm noticing lately that my cards all look out of focus on the left side.  Sigh!  I do not want to buy a camera, but I guess it is time to look.  The one I'm using now cost less than $75 and has lasted a long time.

Copper Glitter and Gel Medium

I mixed some copper glitter with gel medium onto a craft mat and then used a palette knife to spread the mixture over two different stencils onto card stock.  After they dried I cut them into layers for the card front.   The glitzy flower was in my stash and was purchased quite awhile ago at Michaels.  I found two coppery colored leaves in my stash to pair with the flower.

Be sure to clean off the stencil and mat right away before the excess mixture dries.  It washes off easily with warm/hot water and some liquid soap.
